Pay Per Click Management
'Pay Per' What?
Pay per click (PPC) advertising is just what it states - paying for clicks - or in other words paying a fee everytime someone clicks on your ad. Unlike traditional CPM advertising where you pay everytime
some 'sees' your ad, you do not pay for PPC ads until someone actually clicks on them meaning you are only paying for true visits to your site.
The two major pay per click providers are Overture who pioneered PPC advertising and Google who has actually been the most successful making money from PPC advertising. There are various other PPC
providers such as Kanoodle, Business.com and FindWhat to name a few but Overture and Google are currently the dominant ones, having the most reach.
Instant Visibility - Instant Results
Pay per click advertising allows you to quickly add text listings to the sponsored areas of search engine results pages (SERPs) so long as you have an active account with a PPC provider. Select the keywords
or phrases you want your ads to show up for, create some ad copy and choose the amount you are willing to pay for each visitor and away you go. Sounds simple enough - doesn't it?
Well it can be for the more savvy marketing types but for those who do not have much experience with marketing, a PPC campaign can be difficult to set up and even more difficult to maintain and measure
the results of. One must first select keywords that are relevant to one's business model which requires skill in itself. Then compelling ads have to be written, usually in 25 words or less,
that are going to attract click-thrus. There is the process of managing bids so that you stay in the positions you desire. Finally there is the task of measuring ROI (return on investment) and making
adjustments along the way to get the best bang for your buck.
Can I Do This Myself or Should I Seek A Professional?
The PPC providers have done a pretty good job developing self serve control panels where companies can set up and maintain their own marketing campaigns and tracking tools so they can analyze the results. Overture is pretty straight forward in that
'he who
is willing to pay the most' gets the highest position. Google on the other hand is a bit more challenging because they do not just reward the highest position to the highest bidder but take click-thru
rates (CTR) into consideration as well. Good CTR usually can only be obtained if the correct keywords are chosen and the ads are compelling people to click-thru.
Therefore while you may be able to initially save money managing your own PPC campaign, you may end up losing money and/or sales down the road because you are not able to optimize your campaign to
achieve the highest possible ROI. That is where a professional pay per click management company such as ourselves can add a lot of value to your online marketing efforts.
